Periodontal Regeneration continues to advance due to growth factor technology with biologics such as recombinant growth factors and LASER technology with Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP). The biology of regeneration will be reviewed, and the ability save teeth and preserve natural dentition will be presented. Lasers have enabled the advanced treatment of teeth often deemed hopeless with the ability to treat the entire dentition comprehensively where the extent of disease may be challenging to manage with a flap surgical approach.
This presentation will review the biology of regeneration with a focus on LANAP (Laser Attachment New Procedure) Therapy. Long-term follow-up will include 3-d reformatted CBCT analysis suggestive for extensive bone growth post-LANAP therapy. Human histology will be presented to support proof of principle for the therapeutic approach. Conventional surgical approached with growth factor technology and minimally invasive surgical techniques will be discussed with comparison discussion to the LANAP treatment.
Comprehensive care with advanced periodontal disease may also require muco-gingival therapy. The sequence of procedures will be discussed as well as post-operative care and maintenance protocols. With 17 years of experience with Laser Therapy, this overview will hopefully share some clinical pearls.
- Understand the potential of LANAP Therapy to regenerate the periodontium.
- Gain confidence for treating advanced periodontal disease which may otherwise be considered for extraction and dental implant therapy.
- Better understand the biology of healing with and without bio-materials or growth factors comparing conventional flap surgery to minimally invasive procedures (M-mist or LANAP).
