The American Board of Periodontology is the nationally recognized certifying board for the specialty of periodontology and certifies in periodontology and dental implant surgery. The examination process consists of two exams: the Qualifying Exam and the Oral Exam. The Qualifying Examination is the first step in board certification and requires candidates to pass a written examination. The written examination is a multiple-choice exam that covers a broad range of information related to the science and art of periodontology.
Speakers will provide general information about the Qualifying Examination and the board certification process.
American Board Review Part 1 is not intended to be a preparatory course for the board exam, but instead, it is intended to serve as an informational session with questions and answers for potential candidates who wish to challenge the board examination itself. Attendees will gain an understanding and appreciation of how the qualifying examination (QE) is developed through a comprehensive topic and question writing process by SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) and then validated through advanced psychometric procedures. Additionally, attendees will receive general information on how the entire board certification process is managed. Please note: Attendees will learn important and valuable information regarding the ABP board certification process, but this course is not designed to provide “tips” or “strategies” to successfully challenge either the written examination or oral examination.
